Turkey Trot History
Since 2002, the Clark County Turkey Trot has been held annually on Thanksgiving morning. This race, started by family and friends, has grown steadily since then.
As the number of participants grew, so did the event. Runners and walkers were allowed to trot at their own pace and distance and were encouraged to bring friends, family, and even their dogs!
Pre-and-post race donuts, fruit, coffee, and hot chocolate became available to keep participants nourished and energized.
Serious participants were rewarded by having their run times in local newspapers.
It wasn't until 2008 that the founders decided they wanted to do something more. They chose to represent and donate money to the Principal's Checkbook, a program that provides resources to local school children who are in need. For 2009, the New Heights Foundation will be receiving these funds and distributing them to the Principal's Checkbook programs in the Clark County area.
Despite short notice and lack of time, 350 people participated that year and raised over $3,300!
While there is no required registration fee, participants in the Turkey Trot are encouraged to donate and give back to the community. This way everyone can benefit.
